Sandeep Kumar, undersecretary of Health and Family Welfare Department of TK Damodaran of Chennai, said in a recent reply that treatment abroad can also be availed under the Central Government Health Scheme. While pensioners may not get the benefit.
According to the letter, as per Rule 11 of CSMA, 1944, a government employee and his dependent family can undergo treatment outside the country. In addition, reimbursement of expenses incurred after treatment in one’s own and family’s country or abroad can also be claimed.
The letter clarifies that government employees mean employees working under the central government who are still employees and providing services to the government. According to the Central Service Medical Attendance Rules, employees receiving pension under this scheme will not get the benefit of treatment abroad.
